Why focus on dating profile photos and not the bio?

As a dating profile photographer I am biased. Online dating profile photos are my bread and butter.

But I got into this for a reason – I know that focusing on dating profile photos helps guys the most. I’ve seen it all when it comes to dating profile photos.

From the “artsy” black and white shot of a person’s face with a flower covering one eye, to the overly-posed group photo with six of your closest friends (none of whom are even remotely attractive).

And let me tell you, it’s not just the weird or unattractive photos that turn people off. Even seemingly normal photos can be a turn-off if they don’t accurately represent the person.

So why are dating profile photos so important? Well, let’s break it down.

First and foremost, they’re the first thing people see when they come across your profile. Think about it: if you’re scrolling through a sea of potential matches and one person has a grainy, pixelated photo of themselves from ten years ago, are you going to stop and take a closer look? Probably not.

On the other hand, if someone has a clear, recent dating profile photo of themselves looking confident and attractive, you’re more likely to stop and read their bio.

But it’s not just about first impressions. Dating profile photos also help give people an idea of what you look like in real life. If you use a photo of yourself from college that’s ten years old, people are going to be surprised (and maybe a little disappointed) when they see you in person. And if you use a photo of someone else (yes, I’ve seen it happen), it’s just plain deceptive.

Plus, it’s just common courtesy. If you’re expecting someone to invest their time and energy into getting to know you, the least you can do is show them what you look like with your dating profile photos. It’s not rocket science.

So if you’re struggling to find the perfect dating profile photo, here are a few tips:

  • Use a clear, recent photo of yourself. You don’t have to be a model, but make sure the photo is in focus and well-lit.
  • Show off your personality. If you love hiking, include a photo of yourself on a trail. If you’re a wine connoisseur, include a photo of yourself at a vineyard.
  • Avoid group photos where it’s not clear who you are, or where your friends stand out but you look goofy. You know the one.
  • Don’t be afraid to show off your sense of humor. If you have a quirky or goofy photo that showcases your personality, go for it! Just make sure it’s still a flattering photo.

So there you have it: why a focus on your dating profile photos is important, and a few tips on how to choose the perfect one.
